New guest PhD student at IBF

We are pleased to welcome Gilbert Girumugisha, a guest PhD student, to our KIT-IBF team. Gilbert Girumugisha is supervised by Prof. Carlos Ovalle, and together we will collaboratively work on large-scale triaxial testing of boulder/gravel-sized materials. This project is funded by Mitacs Globalink. It represents a step forward in our collaboration between KIT and Polytechnique Montréal. Welcome to the team, Gilbert Girumugisha, and stay tuned for further updates.

18.09.2023 -Award winners of the Franz and Alexandra Kirchhoff Foundation 2023

The Kirchhoff Foundation Prize is awarded annually to the best work in the field of road construction, with the best work from related institutes being selected.

We are delighted that this year's prize from the Alexandra Kirchhoff Foundation went to a young scientist from our institute and would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Mr. Luis Mugele, M.Sc.

29.06.2023 - Colloquium "Developments in theoretical soil mechanics"

On 29.6.2023, our institute hosted the colloquium "Developments in Theoretical Soil Mechanics", a colloquium to bid farewell to Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Andrzej Niemunis and on the 85th birthday of o. Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dr. hc. Gerd Gudehus.
The response was very positive, the presentations exciting and the joy of seeing everyone again palpable.


We would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of the colloquium with their highly interesting, exciting and entertaining contributions, in keeping with the occasion, and we look forward to further joint meetings.

28.06.2023 - Young Engineers Award

The Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Engineers has been awarding the "Young Engineers Award", a sponsorship prize for students, since 2022. This offers graduates of civil engineering at Baden-Württemberg universities and colleges the opportunity to make their theses accessible to a broad public and is intended to create awareness of "the societal, cultural and social relevance of civil engineering services, the contribution of civil engineers to science and research as well as building culture and the art of civil engineering."


We are very pleased that this year's prize (in the category Master's thesis, research) went to our employee Mr. Luis Mugele for his outstanding Master's thesis entitled "Numerical considerations on the influence of the in-situ soil by the production of vibratory tamping columns" and congratulate him warmly.

We wish Mr. M.Sc. Mugele every success and all the best for his future research work.
